Welcome to the Old School Henstead

About Us

The Old School Henstead is an independent, co-educational nursery and prep school situated in North Suffolk, set within a 3-acre campus. Nestled in a picturesque rural setting, we are just 10 minutes away from the sea and from the towns of Beccles and Lowestoft.  Our nursery welcomes children from 2½, while the prep school runs from Reception through to Year 6.

What makes us who we are?

An Inclusive Family

Our teachers and parents work together to give pupils the best possible start in their education, laying strong foundations that empower them to step confidently into the world beyond our doors. A Broad and Balanced Curriculum

We teach a wide variety of subjects which promote a broad range of knowledge and skills, while encouraging pupils to discover and pursue their own particular interests and passions. Learn more about our approach by viewing our school prospectus.

Nature’s Classroom

We place great importance on outdoor activities, giving our pupils the freedom to play and explore through outdoor education lessons, sporting activities, and time spent on our field and wooded area.

Encouraging Adventure

Pupils have the chance to embrace the spirit of adventure in safe and secure settings, from climbing and camp-outs to sailing, rock climbing and beyond.

Emotional strength

Pupils’ voices are heard and valued, and they are equipped with the tools to develop the skills essential for a life of emotional resilience.

The joy of childhood

We preserve children’s innocence, nurturing their sense of wonder at the world, and emphasizing the importance of play, so they can discover themselves and unlock their limitless potential.

A message from the Senior Leader:

‘I am incredibly proud to lead a school that has such a warm, caring spirit, which shines through in all that we do. We celebrate each pupil, creating a space where they can be their authentic selves while exploring who they want to become.’
